B.A (Sociology)
Programme Overview
The Department of Sociology was established in the year 2003. In 2008, the sanctioned student strength was increased to 70. The department has consistently maintained a strong academic record by producing university rank holders, which reflects the dedication of both students and faculty members. The department encourages students to achieve academic excellence and actively participate in seminars, presentations, and research activities that enhance their learning experience.
Apart from classroom teaching, the department regularly organizes guest lectures, workshops, field visits, and social awareness programmes to provide students with practical exposure to real-life social issues. These activities help students understand the relationship between sociological theories and society. The department is supported by highly qualified and experienced faculty members who are committed to guiding students in their academic and personal development.
An important initiative of the department is the Advanced Learner Magazine titled ILLUME, which is published annually. This magazine offers a platform for students to express their knowledge, creativity, and research ideas through articles and essays on social issues. Through the Samishti Sociology Association, the department conducts competitions and academic events that promote student participation. The department also organizes awareness programmes through the SKPC Gender Equality Forum to promote gender sensitivity and equality among students.
Higher studies in Sociology in the United Kingdom and United States offer many opportunities for specialization, research, and global careers. Our Students are successfully placed at various Government, Private & IT Sectors.
