Course Overview
The Department of Tamil established in 1999, plays an important role in promoting the richness and heritage of the Tamil language and literature. Tamil is one of the world’s oldest classical languages, and the department aims to preserve and develop its literary, cultural, and historical values among students. Through systematic teaching and research, the department helps students gain knowledge of classical and modern Tamil literature, grammar, poetry, and linguistics.
Students are introduced to great Tamil literary works such as the Thirukkural, Silappathikaram, and Manimekalai, which reflect the ethical values, culture, and traditions of Tamil society. The department also encourages students to develop skills in reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking in Tamil.
The Tamil Association of the department organizes various academic and cultural activities to encourage students participation and creativity. Activities such as speech competitions, essay writing, poetry writing, debates, and drama help students improve their communication and literary talents. The association also celebrates important literary events and the birth anniversaries of great Tamil scholars such as Subramania Bharati, Bharathidasan, and Thiruvalluvar.
Through these activities, the Department of Tamil and its association inspire students to appreciate the beauty of Tamil language and culture and develop pride in their linguistic heritage.
