BEST PRACTICE 1 

Entrepreneurial Development Programme (EDP- Samrudhi)

(Training for Rural Women to make them Entrepreneurs)

Objectives of the Practice

  • To encourage students to become entrepreneurs and pave way for the creation of a better society.
  • To motivate the students towards innovation and development in entrepreneurship.
  • To provide knowledge about government schemes and financial support provided for entrepreneurship.
  • To extend the service to empower rural women for their welfare through students who gained technical skills in various areas through EDP.

The Context

EDP Cell:

  • EDP is a programme that seeks to provide constructive direction for those who choose a career path from the regular traditional roles. It is the act of motivating, inculcating and developing entrepreneurial skills in the student which are needed to establish their own business.
  • The motive behind EDP is to stimulate the student for adopting entrepreneurship as a career and to enable her to identify and grab the opportunities for new ventures. Entrepreneurship is the only solution to the unemployment problem.

The Practice

To make the student self-reliant, the Empowerment Programme was introduced in the academic year 2005-2006. The Empowerment Programme enables the students to acquire knowledge, skills and techniques which helps them in their personal as well as social growth and it always strives to develop their entrepreneurial skills. This makes the students to become the job-providers rather than the job-seekers. EDP has also planned to continue the rural women service in forthcoming years as per their needs and interest.

         EDP CELL:

  • Certificate courses:

Certificate courses for the year 2022-2023 are certified by National Centre for Vocational & Technical Education (NCVTE) under MHRD, Government of India, 

  • Diploma in Fashion Design,
  • Diploma in Beauty Technician, 
  • Tally ERP 9 and
  • Bakery Baking Technician.

The Certificate course fee is sponsored by the Management.

  • EDP Exhibition:

At the end of the academic year 2022-23, EDP Exhibition was organised on International Women’s Day on 8th March, 2023 to exhibit the learnt skills of the Students.

  • Kanya Bazaar:

Kanya Bazaar was organised on International Women’s Day on 8th March, 2023. Our College students, alumnae and outsiders were invited to put stalls and together it marked total sales of Rs.1,00,242/- through various stalls like Food, Cloths, Accessories, Stationery, Make over, Mehandi and Nail art.

  • Rural Women Welfare:

The EDP executed their training for the welfare of rural women residing at Thirukazhukundram Chengalpattu district in Jewellery making, Hairdo and basic makeup skill.

Problems Encountered

  • Parents’ lack of support for business ventures demotivates the students.
  • Lack of willingness and perseverance by the students.
  • Lack of courage and risk taking attitude.

BEST PRACTICE 2

Green Campus by ECO Club

Objectives 

  • To maintain a clean and green environment within the campus.
  • To increase the level of student thinking relevant to environmental protection through awareness programmes and outreach activities.
  • To create a green environment even outside the college campus through distribution of saplings to guests.

The Context 

Green environment is necessary for our survival and future wellbeing. Students are encouraged to create a clean and green environment both within the campus and outside the campus through activities like campus cleaning, outside the campus cleaning, distribution of saplings, etc., thus working towards a sustainable green environment.

The Practice

The practice provides an attachment towards nature and benefits the students making them to realise the significance of green environment to save the future.

Evidence of Success

Cleanliness program created awareness among the students and motivated them to keep up the spirit of cleanliness and to maintain the environment. The club takes the initiative in spreading the green environment even outside the college campus. As an initial activity the club had distributed air purifier plants to shops outside the college campus. This activity will be extended in future by distributing more number of saplings to shops and residential of this area.

  • 60 students participated in the cleanliness awareness program
